Medals or Coins? - Please send me information.

EWe found these medals or coins near a shipwreck that we are trying to identify. Does anyone know anything about them?

Hello ... these have the appearance of an accounting token, possibly German, called "rechenpfennig" ...these were used in accounting & also in gaming, not struck for circulation ... they both appear to have been struck on a roller mill coining device (for those not familiar with a roller-mill, imagine: -- a large, heavy-duty pasta roller - looking contraption, with roller dies that impressed the coin's details by rolling a strip of metal silver, copper, or gold, between the 2 engraved rollers, then, passing that strip through another similar device that cut the round coins from the strip) ... the off-center strike with blank metal left partially around the edges indicates roller-mill production, commonly used in Europe from the late 1400s through the early 1700s ...

...information on the general geographical location of your find, & sharper, focused images of the obverse & reverse of each token would be of help to determine exactly what they are ...

Pictures of both sides would certainly help.

The second one does indeed seem to be a German States rechenpfennig counter token and likely produced in Nuremberg.

I believe I see a legend beginning 'LUD XV' for Ludwig XV, the German titling for Louis XV (who reigned from 1715-1774) and ending with the word 'REX', for king. Similar styling of the bust to this one from 1744:

Nossa localização é o Estado do Ceará - Município de Icapuí, Praia de Ponta Grossa. Estudando outras peças encontradas, verificamos que são de origem australiana e inglesa. Ainda não conseguimos identificar essas duas peças.

As fotos foram tiradas para um livro que publicamos. Posso lhe enviar uma cópia por e-mail para que você tenha mais informações sobre nosso trabalho aqui. Atualmente, o material está lacrado em um depósito para ser usado em um museu.

Translation: Dear Sirs, I thank you for your attention. These pieces were found in the wreckage of a ship Which we think is from the 19th century wrecked here in Brazil. Our location is the State of Ceará - Municipality of Icapuí, Ponta Grossa Beach. Studying other pieces found, we found that they are of Australian and English origin. We have not yet been able to identify these two pieces. The photos were taken for a book we published. I can send you a copy by email so that you have more information about our work here. Currently, the material is sealed in a warehouse to be used in a museum.

A segunda parece ser, de fato, uma ficha de contagem de rechenpfennig dos Estados Alemães e provavelmente foi produzida em Nuremberg.

Acredito ver uma legenda que começa com 'LUD XV', de Ludwig XV, o título alemão para Luís XV (que reinou de 1715 a 1774), e termina com a palavra 'REX', de rei. O estilo do busto é semelhante a este de 1744:

EThis one is identical. I believe it could indicate the presence of a German or French crew member or passenger. I'll check some passenger lists from ships that disappeared in the South Atlantic. Thanks.
