Detector(s) used
white's DFX,Classic III, Prizim II
My new buddy(DFX) of one month went down yesterday :crybaby2:, don't think it was the batteries after all. I tried the rechargeable pack in my classic III and it worked fine.We were just getting to bond and the weather is getting a lot better( except 3-4 inches of rain each week).I think I'm just gonna have to send him to the Hospital in Lombard, IL. for surgery (I hope it isn't major surgery) . Anyways he'll be in expert hands. His pulse on our last skirmish was 10.2 then it dropped to 5.3 . the last time I checked it didn't show his big beautiful square green eye flickered one last time then he was gone. pray for a miracle that he may raise up from the dead and beep with the living once again :angel8:

Rest In Peace My DFX until we meet again.

I hope you get him home from the hospital soon!!

sorry to hear that buddy, good luck with the lombard guy,i've dealt with him once AND NEVER AGAIN

Did you try a re boot?

White's Strikes Again ::)

now,now don't knock a MD of any brand :icon_scratch:Be nice, We all have our favorites. I've had one bad apple out of many White's.

I know the feeling unfortunately. My beloved Troy Shadow X5 was sent to the hospital yesterday. My disc knob was messing up and slipping. I sent her in for a complete overhaul. I still have my Shadow X2 and Minelab Musky to hold me over until she gets better. Good luck getting it all straightened out.
Take care, Mike in NJ

thanks Mike. What are the Troy Shadow brands like . Here in NW Arkansas you only see people swinging Garrets or White's. (Wally World sales cheap BH"S (only seen 1 in use) always wondered about the others and minelab in particular ? I know they all have quirks and all . just curious what gets someones attention over others?

LOL Very possible. I try to take it out every day even if it's my back yard. The sure sign of an adiction I guess .The other sign of an adiction is you know when your addicted to Treasure Net when your LCD screen starts to go on the blink .this is the 2nd. Sceptre moniter in a yr and a half. What's next, everything happens in threes

That pretty much sums it up. I like the differences between them. My main style for detecting is relic hunting so the Shadow X5 and X2 I use for that. Strong relic hunting detectors in my opinion. The Minelab Musky works great for coinshooting with the smaller coil it gets better separation and you can crank the disc to dig coins only and still get good depth to squeak out the deeper silver. I like my mini arsenal. Works for me for the styles I hunt most.
Good Luck, Mike in NJ

thanks for the reply . I've been curious about the minelab for a year and thought if I went another route then that would be the way I'd go.
I'd probably have to be single again before I could spend that much LOL. She flipped when she heard the price on the DFX.I guess in my next life I need to find one that doesn't just act the part but actually has the same hobbies as I. Everything we did before came to a screeching halt after.I gave up pool, bars ,smokes, and for the most part drinking unless she on occasion drives me to drink but I'll never quit swinging.

I've got a dfx, before you send it in try this. turn it on, let it progress to detect mode, pull the battery out, while it is turned on, while you wait for one minute, check the contacts to make sure they're not bent or squished flat, if you slam or drop the pack in to many times it will create poor contact, now put the battery back in and try it again. If that doesn't work send it in, it should be covered by warranty

I know the feeling. All kind of crazy things start whirling in the brain matter. A while back I turned my machine on and, nothing. Talk about a sinking feeling. Then I remembered that I had removed the battery pack the night before. Of course at that point I was 4 miles from the house getting ready to start detecting!!! Whew!!

Brian, be careful 'bout that "swinging"...That's what started the "new" New York gov's trouble! ;D ;D

Sorry to hear about your buddy's malfunction. Have you tried a shot & a beer?

Trouble? He's only unemployed right now and he still has his wife. Then again I don't have a job (medically retired), and my "swinging (MD)" might run her off . she hates science, history and metal detecting.just my luck :(

I notice quite a few posts from folks whose DFX has died or got injured while in the field. Were they built with a limited lifeline programmed into them? There's probably more working Radio Shack specials out there than these new-fangled, computer-controlled, LCD screens, automatic, finger-licking, toe-tapping, eye-dropping, whipper-snapper detectors!
