Hi everyone.

I would appreciate any comments on this item that I found metal detecting near to a 10th Century church in Britain. I've found other medieveal stuff and coins at a similar depth. It's bronze. I think it could be a brooch or a mount or even a large man's ring.

Nice find! For what it's worth, the design is the ancient Armenian eternity symbol, from the 5th century onward.

Found the exact same one, in Virginia Confederate Lines at Five Forks, where I currently have one of my permissions. Rossette.webp

They are not identical at all. The lines only curve in one direction on Frank's and they have two curves on War R's. Frank's is also ovoid in shape while the other is round, and Frank's was found in England where much more ancient stuff is found than here in the US.

I'm pretty sure now that it is a piece of decorative horse tackle.

I agree-it looks like the upper half of a saddle strap guide. Probably not nearly as old as you're thinking.
