Meeting T-NET FRIENDS!

I was very lucky today I got to meet some T-net friends for the first time today! I talked to naturegirl and she told me she and Buckshot we're going to be in Ponca City working today so I went and watched them work!

This is at the Marland Mansion in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The statues are a very important part of the history of the Manison and the community!

It was really great meeting you both and like I said let me know when you can hunt and we'll take you some places!

Omgosh, is that what I look like?! It was very nice meeting you Metal Granny, and it was a nice visit. My arms are so sunburned! But it sure was a peaceful afternoon. That's my favorite all-time pic of Buckshot, but I want everyone to notice who's working, and who's standing around watching? Huh? Just kidding, he works circles around me. It was neat to meet someone from Tnet, like I said, this is the nicest forum, Metal Granny has a deep appreciation for the local history of Ponca City, and is just a really nice person to visit with. Perfect Friday afternoon.

The original statues 2 of the 3 are in the foyer they are made of French limestone. Mr Marland his is was moved to downtown Ponca City from the mansion years ago but they had these copies made of concrete and placed where they used to stand on the grounds. The others are safer inside. Link posted above gives some good info on out former Governor who also drilled for oil on the state capitol grounds. I think you'll like the link and naturegirl and Buckshot can tell you all about the process of making these statues! I had a great time watching them work!

Buckshot and I work for a fine-art bronze casting foundry. Concrete is so far out of our league it isn't funny. Don't know a thing about it. When the foundry was contacted by the mansion last year, we thought, well sure, we can do that. Long story short, we finally set the concrete duplicates back outside where they were originally. It was easily the MOST challenging moldmaking job I've ever done. I can't tell you how nervous I was making a mold on irreplacable limestone statues. The artist is Jo Davidson. The woman's statue is very lovely, and I'm sure the Marland Mansion would be glad to sell you a concrete duplicate! We cast the duplicates in two pieces, and then patched the seam at the waist. That's what I'm doing in these pictures. Guess Buckshot is there for moral support.

It's always special to meet TNet friends, so happy that y'all got to meet. Those statues are beautiful, loved reading the history of Marland Mansion. Evy, thanks for the pics and sharing with us.
