I MD ed in the area surrounding America's oldest standing minor league baseball stadium today for a couple short hours. This is a park area so of course I found lots of trash, but there were some highlights. I found $0.52 and this very unusual Mercury / Hermes Cameo. I did not even see the cameo until I started cleaning it up. The cameo itself appears to be marble. I had high hopes for the surrounding metal, after the first couple swipes of the brush I saw gold peaking through. :icon_thumright: It has a very intricate design in the gold work, but as I continued to clean it appears to be plate. I do not see an breaks so I am puzzled as to what purpose it actually served. :icon_scratch: If anyone has any ideas as to age or purpose, please let me know.

Maybe a wax seal?

That seems like a very good idea.

Nice find anyways.

could you post a picture of the back?

The back is exactly like the front other than it lacks any carving. There are no signs of any breaks. Sorry but I won't have access to a camera until later this evening.

By the way that is an awesome scouting ring on your Avatar. I was an Eagle Scout myself.

Very cool piece BR. Looks like marble but what about onyx? I know a couple of die-hard old school Mercury car guys that would love that. Regardless of value, it's still a great find... :icon_thumright:
