My buddy and I went swinging again up around Virginia City today. He happened across this incredible dime spill, and was gracious enough to call out to me to come join in! (Now that's a good friend!)

He ended up with 17 mercs and 4 rosies!

I managed to get 6 ladies myself (thank you my friend!).

I'm thinking maybe somebody was playing a dime slot machine and was carrying out their cup of dimes and tripped and fell scattering dimes in the darkness. However it happened, I'll take it!

Wow ... that's amazing - congrats !

Nice haul!!!!!!!!!

Amazing find. I think there is a game played with dimes. I have found three dime spills at fair grounds and firemen's carnivals.

Congrats to you and your buddy! And he's a fantastic friend for sharing!

When you said "ladies" I had to look up the history of the "Mercury" dime (since the mythological god Mercury was a man), and I was surprised by what I learned:

"Designed by Adolph Weinman and also referred to as the Winged Liberty Head dime, it gained its common name because the obverse depiction of a young Liberty, identifiable by her winged Phrygian cap, was confused with the Roman god Mercury"
I don't think we should start calling them "Winged Liberty Head dimes" - that's too much to type - but now I have a fun fact to share (though not many people will care....).

Good Golly!! That's a lot of silver!! Congratulations!!

Those are the unforgettable days love when that happens..........

In the 1980's I was reading a TH magazine and an article about one's way of researching was to go to the library and look at old newspapers put on microfilm. He found a story about a vending machine truck that had been hit at a rural intersection and the truck had turned over. He went to the dirt road intersection out in the sticks and started finding silver dimes. I can't remember the number, but it was impressive.

Grats on a great outing and thanks for sharing.

My mom was great at the Dime game - toss dimes onto glassware and hope it stays - of course the dishes had a slight tilt ----

I found 5 Buffalo Nicole’s once and 3 mercury dimes under a tree but you hit the mother lode.

Whoa! Congrats on the find!
