Hi,

I have been invited by a local Historical Society to do a 15-20 minute talk on Metal Detecting, Searching for Family History, and How it could possibly be used in Genealogy.

I have never been good at giving speeches or standing up in front of a crowd, but I would like to share detecting with as many people as possible.

If anyone could help me with ideas, talking points, or any pointers in general would be much appreciated.

Thanks

On a dig at a private home in Brooklyn, NY, we were able to recover several items that traced the family back three generations, including a chauffeur license that dated to the 1920s.

That's awesome Terry, is there a thread you made about the finds that I could read to get a little more information?

I find it hard to think that metal detecting can really assist in genealogy. You won't find paper records with your MD. You can however bring the past alive with your finds. Every artifact found on a property adds to the story of the inhabitants throughout the years. You may find evidence of their military service, toys from certain era, tools from earlier times. If your lucky you'll dig something inscribed with a name or initials. I recommend you recall some of your local hunts that produced a lot of artifacts and try to describe the inhabitants. By the age of toys you can tell when children played.

Good Luck

I hope you feel honored to speak to that audience. Kudos to you:notworthy:
