Hi everyone, im new to the site wanted to say hello. Im headed out to my home turf kingman az and wanted to do some prospecting out there. Going to be dry panning and metal detecting unless i can get my grandpa to give up his drywasher haha in my dreams!!! But i was wondering if anyone had any hepful advice az what to look for and maybe even locations on some old mines are. Or what kind of soil i should be trying to find. I will be on a quad. Any help would be great thanks

Check out these resources. They are useful for
#1 Finding areas that are likely to produce minerals.
#2 Ensuring that somebody does not already own the mineral estate where you want to prospect.

Welcome to Land Matters

LR2000- BLM

Thank you! I took a look at it ill be studying it all weekend before i go. Last thing i want to be is a claim jumper. My grandpa use to gold mine for a living and i have heard the stories haha

The Land Matters mapping shades in 1/4 sections because that is how BLM indexes the claims. Just because the entire 1/4 is shaded, doesn't mean the whole area is claimed.
I guess you would have to go to the courthouse and read the location notice to see exactly where the claim limits are.

I hate to give away all of the secrets...but there is a wealth of historical mining information available on the internet.
Try Google Books as a start.

I like to use stuff like this as research...
Makes for great armchair prospecting, when you combine it with Google Earth.

Google, "Prospecting Club, gold basin, AZ" and you'll find a TON of good info. Hold on to your "Hot Rocks" up there, because they might just be meteorites!
