At the end of last year I was thinking about taking the meter off my sovereign, I would like to lighten it up abit. To tell the truth I didn't think I needed it, because I mostly listen to the tones. Well today I was out detecting in the woods, there was a fair amount of coins in this one particular area. There was also alot of spent brass from somebody with a .45 auto. The .45 brass was some of the higher quality stuff, not like most of the stuff you buy now days. Anyway my detector really liked this type of brass and the tone wasn't broken or hesitant like usual. The meter showed it at 525. Most all the coins read 535 or better, with very similar tones on the memorials.
So it looks like there is some value to letting the meter tag along.

I hip mount my Sov GT controls and the meter and find this the way to go. But I am wondering now if I can also hip mount my S-1 inline probe. Maybe I won't be able to lift my chest off the ground..........

That's the one time I find a meter (or even a notch) to be a joy to have: when there's a lot of one trash item. Be it shotshell bases, .22LR brass, bottlecaps or pull-tabs. When you're up to your knees in them it's nice to be able to ignore those signals. I still don't mind hearing them when running with only iron discriminated out as long as the meter gives me the #s I can decide to pass on.

Thanks for the reply kntutt, I've seen that before, and sure enough our local Lowes carries the pouches. Have you seen this Sandman?
I think we would still need to find a way to make sure the control box or the meter doesn't fall out of the pouch. Maybe using some velcro.

Yes I have seen this post. My bags are a little different but the idea is the same. Thanks

I get a 180 reading on shotgun shell bases. They show the same as quarters. Have you seen the same result?

Yes some of the shotgun shell bases read 180 and some due to high or low base read different. Still you can't take the chance and pass them up. I mean, how many shots does it take to take down a rabbit or birdie? I tried to swing on the targets from different directions to see if the reading changes an if something else was down there it would.

Definitely would not pass up digging the sound a shell base makes. It's just amazing how many you can find in some locations. My last dig, I found over 30.
