Fleabay is not for people not on top of unissued, fakes, restrikes etc. Apmex is a crap shoot usually, as a generic, "representative example" of circulated coins will be shown -- not the one you'll receive in the mail if you buy one.

Surf around and find books on them, auctions which feature the stuff you're in search of, and collectors clubs/message boards which deal with them.

The time-honored advice for avoiding a collection of money-wasting junk is, "Buy the books before you buy the coins."

i have a pretty deep knowledge of the subject but just can't seem to find the right source for these coins. Let me give you a for instance...

these guys are my GO TO spot for French coins, if you want it they got it or can find it for you. (their website is awesome, check it out). I will buy occasional spot coins from Apmex when they through a teaser at me to get me back as a customer.

What I need is the definitive Mexican/Latin American coin site. You would think it exists, being so deep in value, variety and interest but I just can't find one.

I also buy from Heritage, and find good deals on non-Canadian coins in Canadian auctions.

Checked NumisCorner. No Ecuador, no Bolivia, no Salvador . . . Early independence stuff (when they were minting their own coins) is most interesting, IMO

yeah, I use numiscorner for French coins, pretty deep listings. At times I have had to go to the source (Argentina, Chile) for hard to get examples... but I don't like buying from foreign dealers that I don't have a relationship with.

For Japanese coins I use Ginza Coins as I know the place and they too have a great selection. And I have developed great Australian contacts too. I guess what I am looking for (if it exists) is a Mexican dealer in Mexico, with great reputation, great depth of knowledge, contacts and great selection.

Revolution/Pancho Villa/Blackjack Pershing tokens, Hacienda Tokens from Chihuahua, All the coins I find In Indian Wars/Pre Civil War camps are Mexican. Bought/found/and traded Mexican coins mostly from Chihuahua.

Many thanks Jorgeke and dougachim! I will go to the safe later tonight and dig out what I have to show all. I am primarily looking for silver at this point. I really love the crude Royalist 8 reales and would love to get my hands on anything National Congress like this one.

What an awesome collection of desert relics! Your collection really tells a story! Is that and 1868 5 centavo? The hacienda tokens are really great too. I have a few myself, no Mexican collection is complete without a few! I actually have some of those Chihuahua banknotes too. They were my Great-grandfather's who was paid with them in Southern Idaho where they passed seasonally when the migrant workers came to harvest the fields in the early 1900's.
