for many men in WW2 --that was a nightmare .... one bad weapon to have to come up against ... the USA's M 60 squad machine gun was based on the German WW2 era MG 42

That is way cool. Finding a weapon is on my bucket list, as is hunting a war zone area.

Awesome find! I was never able to find an MG42 when I was stationed in Germany. My friends and I did find extra barrels, 50 round drums and ammunition for the MG42 but never the weapon itself. Congratulations again.
