I hit some good ground again, finally. The oldest wheatie here is 1910. the dimes are 1920 and 1923. The broken 18k gold earring is shown just as I found it, with 2 backs on it for some reason, which was lucky for me, because I had my Ace 250 set for coins only. The 2nd back is probably brass, which I think must have read as a dime, at least it was the only item I found in that hole. I'll be returning with the ace set for jewelry to see if I can find the rest of the broken earring.
this is my first gold. Without the extra brass back, it weighs .51 dwt, about $30 worth.
I'm guessing the pin came from a military type hat or uniform. It has a bolt and brace on the back for mounting. It's a heavy piece of brass, and still has some fragments of gold plating on it - I'm afraid I may have polished off some. I must remember that I always get in trouble trying to clean my finds.
The rainbird shows how everyday objects were once artful metaphors, a bit of beauty in an ordinary mechanical gadget, adding a touch of grace to a well-cared-for lawn. Here's a video taken as I test it out.
