Hey all,
Happened on this site while surfing for info about a couple ghost towns in Michigan. I am new to the metal detector/treasure hunting thing though. I recently picked up a Garrett Ace 150. My finds so far:

1 nickel
3 pennies
1 soda can
1 fishing lure

Nothing of any sort of value other than face.

I live in Bay City and I am a huge Michigan history buff. The wife and I have visited many Michigan ghost towns over the last few years. I figured why not start looking for something while there. A few we have been to; Idlewild, Marlborough, Pere Cheney, Rockport and Damon. We have be to several others too (hit a couple in the UP last Summer). We are hoping to hit a couple more next month on a trip to Marquette to the rocket launch at the tip of the Keweenaw (@ 5 miles past Fort Wilkins SP). We are hoping for a little hunt time in Mandan, Pequaming and along where the Iron Range & Huron Bay RR was supposed to run by Champion.

I also like to hit the trails with my 4x4, a '04 Toyota Tacoma DoubleCab that I have done a couple mods to. I also am a member of Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Assoc. too. I can use a GPS too but I am not into the geocaching thing.

Oh yea, the wife and I are big Red Wings fans.

Bay City area? Nice! I'd love to explore around there for some Indian finds. Good luck in your future trips!

planning on hitting the rock cut on the pequaming side in the old RR bed, done some fishing around that area, when i was working up there

What ones? I know of Red Keg. There is also Hard Luck more by Gladwin/Wooden Shoe.

there are many places in both midland and bay counties that are considered ghost towns some like red Keg still have some people in them some there is nothing left. Do you have a copy of Michigan Ghost towns by R.L. Dodge? it's 2 volumes one for upper and one for lower. We have a detecting club for the Mid Michigan area if you are interested. Cliff
