Mid terms finally over! Got a couple of hours to hunt, here's what I found

After a few weeks of struggling with my mid terms, I finally got back to the old cabin site on my place & did some hunting. Didn't find a lot, but the whole area sets the detector off like it's singing. Here's what I found today:

Here's another couple of shots of the token that we found

What I've been able to find out on the token is that it's from 1896-1900 & had something to do with the campaign of William Jennings Bryan & possibly William McKinley.

Can't read what the token says in your pic....pls. tell us what it says on the front and the back.

I haven't figured out how to get my digital camera to zoom in very good, but here is what it says:

one side says "without silver we have trusted as a result of this we are busted". The other side has the statue of liberty & says "16 to 1" & around the edges says "national prosperity & a couple of other words that I can't make out.

Is the token silver? With the wording it would be ironic if it wasn't. The hole at the top seems like it was worn on a necklace, maybe...

enjoy the hunt because treasure is where you find it,

Cool finds--nicely done!

All the best,

Lanny

The token was from the times of Grover Cleveland, (1880's). The 16 to 1 refers to the value of silver as compared to gold that the Free Silver movement endorsed. You have a piece of history there. HH, OldSean

Oh how I wish it was silver! No...it is aluminum. I guess that's why we found it in such shallow ground. It probably wasn't 2 inches down. I was hunting with a tenant of mine & she had just stuck the shovel into the ground after we got a hit on it & when she dug the token flew up in the air. We both leaped up like we had been shot! I think I've got her hooked! I know I am!

The rings look like the guides for the lines on horse harness.Horse_harness_closeup.webp

Thanks Bosn! I was thinking they may be harness hardware. Old BLM survey maps show a plot that was being farmed just a bit south of this site. I've also found 2 cultivator blades in this same area.

Good finds! That token is cool. Interesting inscriptions. Maybe they had the same passions about finding "silver" as we do lol :)
Good hunting :)
