Alright so I'm back in the ME for work and figured I'd carry on with my new-found hobby out here.

First hunt, took my 6 yr old boy with me in case I needed to dish out a "oh just teaching my son" story. About half an hour into our hunt at a nearby park, some park supervisor type character approaches us and starts asking me questions - what I'm doing, what that big black contraption is etc...

I simply told the guy I'm teaching my boy science, that the device next to me is a metal detector, and kept pursuing the target I was on to.

The guy was skeptical. He just sat there and waited to see the outcome of our dig. And just like that, my pointer went off and I found my first coin. My son started cheering, ""Treasure!" and the guy started laughing. My story was validated.

Anyway, second hunt, we found a few older coins, an old Chinese key, and a strange rectangular object.

As seen in the photos, it's a couple inches long and about an inch wide; feels relatively heavy; has a hollow threaded piece at the end; and when I was cleaning out the center area, it seemed as if there was some type of white acid corrosion present.

Any thoughts?

Possibly a tiny perfume bottle?

Charlie P- Good thinking- I was thinking the same, especially due to the historical/cultural significance of fragrance oils out here. The only reason I dismissed the idea was because of the sheer clunky-ness of the frame and also because I believe a uniform bottle would have been used for perfume/oil not something with a frame and separate front and back pieces. You never know, though.

Look up electrical ground clamps its very close or another similar style of electrical connector. you can even seen the diamond shaped "clamps" with teeth on them and that the screw goes through to clamp it down
