Recently I had been searching everywhere but my own back yard. Then I decided to look up some history of the area. I heard a rumor about a house being on my front yard and I found an 1858 map of my land and there was a house on it!. The name was Grinder. there was a legend that the owner of that house had been killed by his wife and she sealed him inside the flu box and no one knew about it until the demolished the house. I asked my grandfather about it and he knew the whole story and he said it was true that my great grandfather had told him about it as well and that was 50 years ago. I got curious and took the metal detector out and I began finding old pieces of broken farm equipment. I also found lots of small pieces of glass, white pottery, and broken red brick about 8-10 inches down. Its really hit and miss though. The only thing I found that I could tell what it was is a very old looking belt with the buckle barley left and an antique looking shovel. When I moved here, no one had been on the land for at least 50-70 years according to my grandfather(who lives next door). I cleared all of the trees off the land. So i am guessing that what ever was there was from the old Grinder place. However, I dont know who to locate the area where the house actually was. we hauled in about 5 or 6 inches of top soil and that was 12 years ago. So maybe there is lots under the ground but I dont know if my detector will pick up anything down that far. I would like to know if anyone has any good ideas on this one

Good luck, but for starters I would post this on the MD forum; not the CRH forum.

That's where this belongs and you'll get more hits; I suspect.

Again, good luck.

Have you looked at satellite imagery of your land? Sometimes you can see the faint outlines of where a house once was. Even though you put some topsoil on, you never know.
