Posted this yesterday quickly and didn't realize the images were in zip form. Sorry.....

This is a central Jersey find.....what I believe to be a general service military button. 4 arrows in one foot, one olive branch in the other....note the domed design, the etchings behind the eagle, and the corroded back (which I believe meant this was tin-back?) I have searched these specifics online and can't pin down a date on this - anyone able to help?

That is a replica of an officers general service button. The tin back tells you it is a fashion button. Still a cool find.

Any idea as to when these were made?

CBG could tell you. Its a civilian or non-military issue replacement button if a button was lost. The originals were 3 piece brass back. Yours is 2 piece steel back civilian-use imitation or replacement of the 1832-1902 Staff Officer button. Possibly manufactured late 1800s- early 1900s.

Helpful links - thanks BigCypress...
Looking at my button with this info, here's what I see:
Sideview pic, from my view, looks to be three-piece design.
Has a metal shank - both above points and the tin back would suggest Indian Wars.

But....13 stars. Not sure if that throws this into reproduction/replacement or not?

Even if replacement, this has to be a late 18th/early 19th Century dating.

Interested in anyone else's advice. Many thanks to all!

Is it really 3 piece? Does it have a crimp ring? Its hard to see in the pic.

I dont think the stars have any significance as it varies with the different manufacturers. The determining factors are 2 or 3 piece and the steel back vs tin (plated) back.

Yes its late 1800s/ early 1900s replacement or maybe Indian Wars

I think, if you look at the left side of the sideview image of the button you can see the edge of the 3-piece edge. Easier for me to see in person. The tinback images you just shared are very helpful. My pic of the rusted tinback looks a lot like the pics you shared of unrusted - note the clean edge on the backside. Also, the shank matches the style. I am cautiously optimistic this is Indian Wars...but will keep this unsolved until other experts can also weigh in. As always, I am appreciative for, and impressed with, the knowledge on this forum.

If it really is a 3 piece with a crimped ring, it may be Indian Wars. Im not aware of any 3 piece replacements. All the replacements that I have are 2 piece. But my memory is not perfect and CBG may be able to add more.
