Military button?

Found this in a field next to an old farm. Not sure if its even a button, the backside has no writing and the shank is like it would screw into something.

It looks very much to me like something you would see on a civil war button, where the I is for infantry...but I don't know what the H could be. Considering that you are in Virginia, it would definitly put you in the right spot for something like that. Im doing some research, I'll let you know if I find anything.

[edit] The "ordnance" or "ordinance" buttons, im not sure of the spelling, have two cannons crossed similar to the rifles on your relic. Maybe there is a connection?
