20th Century great seal button. I think they started using these about 1903? but the date escapes me.

WWI Eagle Great Seal button... They are a dime a dozen but still kewl to collect/dig.. :occasion14:

The US Army buttons showing the "Great Seal" were first adopted for service in 1902. They did not have a raised border/rim until 1910. Having a raised border/rim, and a "black finish" on it, means it is from the World War One era. The black finish was discontinued a few years after that time, so later ones (such as World War Two era and onward) don't have it.
