Found two more buttons yesterday. Need help identifying these. The small buttons has the inscription of "states" on it, and it has some starburst or some type of wreaths on it. The two bigger buttons has the words London wrote on them, and some starbursts, and wreaths also. Thanks for the help

Do you have any pictures of the front of the buttons?

There's nothing on the front. Just a smooth surface.

1800-1830ish. Should be coins if you keeping searching the erea.

I agree with Crusader. I found many buttons almost exactly like those this summer from a colonial site I was hunting. Although my knowledge of buttons is limited....the buttons I found were IDed by some helpful Tnet members as late 1700's-early 1800's. I also agree that if you keep searching the area, you'll likely find a few coins. I found 9 large coppers at the same site I found my buttons. Keep looking. Theres bound to be more goodies there.

I appreciate the info. Will be heading out in the morning :-)

Great buttons! That's one of my favorite things to find. ;)

Congrats and good luck on your return!

Nana :)

most flat buttons are around the 1820 era roughly give or take 10 years -- 1810 to 1830 were the peak useage years for them -- the british very commonly made buttons for america till the war of 1812 taught us we need to make our own stuff ---

Ivan hit the nail on the head= early 1800s to 1830s. Nice finds. They are MOSTLY associated with the Federal Period but I also find these at my Civil War sites alot. Many of the Confederate soldiers still had military and civilian coats from the 1820/1830s when the war started and before they were issued standard uniforms so you see them at Civil War Sites as well.

Beautiful Buttons!
