Military hat pin ~ button? US OR 162?

I dug this military hat pin in Corvallis Oregon on Sunday. Can anyone tell me exactly what it is? How old is it? US OR 162? What's all this mean?!

I would guess thats a collar disk from the 162nd Infantry, based out of Corvallis Oregon.

However, it's a little later than WWI. The background pattern identifies it as a Type II disk, c. 1926-37. (In some cases, they remained in use until around 1940.)
