I was out detecting today, and we scored a large hit about 10 feet from the road, where dozers had dug out the old drainage ditches.
This is a lid or cover to something, and I am pretty sure it is military related. We were in an area where it could have easily fallen off of military vehicle...we were pretty close to a military base.
The piece is made from aluminum. The round part measures 3 1/8 inches in diameter, and the square part measures 1/ 1/4 inches long. The very short stub looks like it was attached to a hinge. The aluminum is rough on that end, and appears to be broken or sheared off.
One side is painted olive green...the exact shade you would expect for US Army issue. The other side is uncoated, and the brown stuff that looks like mud is glue residue, I believe.
When we dug this, there appeared to be a plastic gasket or seal on the back side, and appearantly the DD thought it was too gross to put in the bag.
***I'm on slow dial up...could I email two pics to someone, and would you be kind enough to post them for me
***
Thanks in advance!!!!!!
