Right now I'm detectorless. I do mainly coinshooting and some relic hunting here in the burbs of Chicago. But, I'm also a gpaa member and hope to get out to some of those desert areas for some detecting as well. Since i haven't had an official vacation in many years, i'd hate hold off one year so i can afford a gold detector too boot.

Suggestions?

forget the explorer for gold nugget hunting.
at least if you want to find very small nuggets.

I am not a Nugget hunter, But I can assure you the Explorer,
although one of the Best Metal Detecting Detectors, Won't find
nuggets like a Gold detector will.

Jeff is correct in recommending a dedicated gold detector for the nuggets. The Minelab 3500 is one of the best and also the most expensive. There are less expensive detectors that are great from Fisher and Garrett.

Unless they are big! ;)
Who wants to find tiny nuggets anyways... ;D

GMT, GoldBug2 or the Eureka.
