Minelab X-Terra 705s on Backorder....What's up with this??

I tried to order one from Kellyco earlier this week.
They called and told me it was on backorder and they didn't know when they would get any in.

After reading some posts here and on a few other forums, apparently there has been a shortage for at least a month now.

The good news is, we have just started getting shipments in over the past couple of weeks. They are slow in coming but they are getting here. There are a couple of reasons for the backlog...

1. There is a gold rush in the Sudan that had a major impact on the metal detector supplies, particularly Minelab.

2. The downturn in the economy worldwide had an effect as the trickle down effect took its toll on the parts manufacturers.

3. Minelab moved one of their facilities.

All of these factors combined with the demand for their products has made it very difficult to get and keep in stock.

Hope this helps explain things a bit. It is just a frustrating on our end that we do not always have the items that you all want.

I heard that Minelabs are now being made in Mylasia i emailed them and asked about that and never got a answer from them. I called and still got no answer from them... Could that be the hold up? Were they are made ?

As far as I know, they are all made in Australia.

As far as I know, they are all made in Australia.

No made in Ireland now & could be Mylaisa.. They have not made them in Australia for a while now. I f you get one made in the last few years it has made in Ireland on the box.

minelab is a good brand...being international does have shipment issues...be patient the wait is worth it
PS I'll be putting a slightly used X Terra 70 on eBay soon so if you want a jump on the competition just put my user name "big61al" on your favorite sellers and it should be posted this weekend

Minelab is closing down the Ireland operations.

Minelab was bought by Codan in early 2008, Codan designs and manufactures a diversified product range for international high frequency radio, satellite and metal detection markets. They also supply TV broadcasting products to global markets and printed circuit boards for customers in Australia and New Zealand and many military contracts.

Codan has been using Plexus for their manufacturing needs for many years, and they are turning over a large portion of the Minelab detector work to Plexus. Plexus is a very highly respected (AMERICAN) company in the manufacturing world, do a Google search on Plexus and see if you can find a negative link...Plexus has won numerous awards including being ranked #10 in the world in 2008 and 2009 in EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services ).

Plexus has manufacturing facilities all over the world, including one that is in Malaysia. Plexus is an AMERICAN company, the plant in Malaysia is a Plexus facility, overseen by Plexus.......

Minelab detectors are not just being handed to Malaysians to be built.

This is the most accurate response of the thread. Plexus makes compute parts for many company's including dell , Hp. and many others.
Minelab...I assure you is fine... most nachines are built in Australia and yes, a few in M-sia
We are building a new warehouse in Chicago at this moment to better serve the east coast.
Hang tight, Minelab is growing fast and will be able to meet everyone's needs real soon.
