X terra picks up cold better and deeper and having better target ID. Garrett s technology is old i think.

I would think the X-Terra 70 would outdo anything around $700 in lightweight target ID detectors, with the possible exception of the Fisher F70. Another forum that used to have a technical column had a string of posts where they would collectively design the best detector (for the price), then they were asked which existing detector was most nearly like that & most agreed the Minelab X-Terra 70. The Fisher F70 came out after that.

I've only tested my X-Terra 70 indoors, but at sensitivity 27 & pulltabs notched out, it got a nickel out to 9 inches in air, with correct tone, while rejecting the new type tab that has very nearly the same conductivity. I used the 5.5 x 10 18.75 kHz DD coil for this test. The stock coil I need to try that yet. It is a 9" concentric coil at 7.5 kHz.

My Fisher F70 IDs a quarter correctly at 11" in an air test.

Most of the Garrett line needs updating, IMO. Many Garrett GTP 1350 owners are happy with them. But I wouldn't expect it to be as deep in most soils. Plus the armrest isn't even shaped like an arm, & the detector I think is a little heavier? The Ace 250 is an ok buy for many but only IDed coins correctly down to 3 1/2-4" in my soil, with the stock coil. If spending more, it's probably best to look at others.

Just my opinion, I wouldn't really want anyone to think they have to do what I say. Different people like different detectors. Good luck with whatever you choose, & HH, George (MN)

Thanks based on the wait and less batteries and allround usage i will eventually move up to the Minelab 70 . :icon_sunny:

Of course I'm baised but...Buying an X-70 is a move I think you will never regret.
