Mini Wheat

Found a mini wheat 194X near a pocket spill of 1950's Era farm kid junk trinkets.(parts of die cast cars, cap gun, odd sprocket, brass bits)

The other items seemed to have survived the dirt OK, (I believe this is a skeleton key hole cover)

I think this wheat penny was ground down to the size of a dime for the kids to try to use in a novelty machine? Crazy thought? I've found tons of zinc penny's that have deteriorated, but never a wheat in the soil around here.

Anyone else either see uniform deterioration on a wheat before?

You could be right on the dime size, theory.
I found a mercury dime that has seen much better days. It is all black and, same with your wheatie, substantially smaller in diameter than it should be.

There are different sized steel punches that are used for making gaskets. I can see them being used on a softer metal like copper.
