Got this at a yard sale yesterday for 25 cents. It appears to be all brass. Spool still turns although it's a little corroded. Can't see any markings except it has what appears to be 08 or 80 stamped on the bottom. Anyone have any ideas on age? It's very small. The sides are about the diameter of a silver dollar.

Sorry I can't help with the ID but for a quarter you can't go wrong if it is brass!

Can't provide any information but it is a neat find packerbacker - thanks for sharing...

Thanks for looking guys. I can't find anything on the net yet. Not worried about any value, just interested in who, when and why.

I've found that it is a "Climax" flyfishing reel that dates between 1890 and early 1900's. I see some in much better condition than mine going for under $25 on ebay. I'll just keep mine for decoration.

Yours sure looks like the one you found on ebay. Wouldn't they have used brass as a base metal if they were going to nickel plate it? Nice conversation piece regardless.
