The weather finally broke here in Missouri. The days are clear and low 70s and the nights are the low 50s. If only the ground weren't so dry, it would be a detector's paradise. I was able to get out and detect Sunday and Monday. The top two rows are shot bullets from my special hill. I counted and I have now found 144 bullets on that hill. Not bad for an afterthought.
The second two rows are from the shooting range in south central Missouri. The two guys I went with found a few dropped .58 three ringers as well and a few shot bullets. On the index card are three sort of "what is its?" However, the veterans tell me the lower right object is a fennel from a bayonet scabbard. The consensus is that my previous what is it was the tip of a soldering rod and that I might have found a spot where off the shooting range soldiers were mending items. That is also where I found the small bar of lead.
The landowner is so tickled with our finds that he on his own asked his neighbor if we could hunt his 40+ acres and the neighbor gave us permission. We believe this land has not been as hunted as the spot we are covering now.
Is this a great hobby or what? More like a profession for me. I am heading to St. Charles County for work today but afterwards I am going to hit a few old home sites in the area. I figure I have to use everyday this weather gives me. Thanks for checking this out.
