This field has a little bit from every period of UK history, so you never know what you may get. It needs a deep plough but I spent 3 hours 45 minutes on my own seeing what was about.

2 Scrappies
2 Jettons
Cloth Seal
Scrap Silver
Bits...

What made the trip worth it was a lovely complete saxon strap end circa 800AD.:icon_thumright:

Incredible as usual. Love your finds you share. HH

nudge-nudge-monty-python-105.webp Have to say more - WTG!!!

Nice strap end, I would lean towards Viking on that, being it a bit broader and the cross weave which could represent inter laced snakes. Either way a nice find.

Whenever i see Saxon or Viking finds i like to come over to save a bit of that history... :occasion14: Great find!

Awesome finds as always!! I would love to own a roman coin, just scared to buy one on the interwebs..lol...At least when your digging, you know you got the real deals

Thanks, I get what your saying, its the first of this design I have seen & it is similar to the later 'Urnes' style of Sandinavian/Anglo-Sandinavian origin.
Whats not clear on the photo is its small size, it matches the other small types typical of the 8-9th C & of this site. This field has produced (top of head, Dad has the map) about 5 of these & 3 sceats from the early 8th C, plus a few Saxon Pin-Heads & a couple of clothes fasteners. I believe it was once a Saxon Site.

They are very cheap, even for a good example, if you go for a normal bronze one, you have nothing to worry about. (very few bronzes are faked except the extremely rare ones, which you should avoid)

Wow. It doesn't get much more historic than that. Really amazing

nice finds! gz!
