Mixed signals

I'm visiting in Georgia this weekend and trying out my new ace 350. I'm getting signals that seem to be jumping. They are pinpointing and showing around 8 inches deep. When I dig the signal goes away but I'll get another hit around a foot away that also shows the same depth. Any suggestions?
