I didn't have a place to detect this last week and had some time on my hands, so I spent some time downstairs in the workshop. I love making birdhouses, and incorporating some of my metal detecting finds into them. I also make them from other objects I run across. The wood I used is 100+ year old barn wood I picked up from one of my old detecting sites. Repurpose, Reuse & Relax is my motto.

Oh yeah, the fish is made from old barn wood too for a lake house we have up in Indiana.

I have boxes full of stuff in limbo. Metal I've dug that isn't display worthy, yet it would be a shame to toss out, so I put some of it to use again.

Thanks so much Surf. I love making and creating things. I wouldn't mind getting more serious into the making and selling once I retire to stay busy.

Those are some really neat bird houses...I really like em decorated with your finds. Our pasture fence lines are surrounded by blue bird houses, I had made a house for the wrens using a coffee can & covered with pieces of driftwood.

Thanks for looking Looking. I dug that sardine can in a yard and loved the aged look and graphics on it, so I kept it. I was going to use it as an awning but it looked better flat as a sign.

Thanks Wishbone. I've always loved birds and making birdhouses. I think I got it from my great-grandfather. He was a taxidermist and had one heck of a collection of birds, including a passenger pigeon which is now extinct. I remember as a kid him making a simple birdhouse by hollowing out a coconut. For some reason that stuck in my mind.

I wish I had a pasture like that. I would have birdhouses everywhere. Where we live now is very quite, and there are a lot of beautiful birds chirping away. They are probably saying, "get your b-tt up and get out there and detect." LOL

No, I like to leave the rough rustic look, so I just hit it with a coarse grit sandpaper so no ones gets and splinters.
