!t has been my first year back at the hobby, and until about a month ago (1906 Barber quarter), I hadn't found ANY notable coins. Well, I got to hunt a new permission Monday, and was I EVER rewarded for searching 1.5 hours to find the house that was supposed to be there in 1877!
Check this off my bucket-list- a 1858 Flying Eagle Penny! It's rough, but for 163 years old and recently exhumed, I'll take her! I didn't realize that they only made these in 1857 and 1858- I just saw one online and thought they looked cool! (I have 2 photos with dirt still on and 2 after tooth-picking- though not quite as tightly focused, and would invite any info on cleaning better, or preserving it as it is.)
I also found some other Items (plus junk), of course, but the penny was THE day!
BTW- I found a lead ball that is .320" with a flat side. That be a shotgun pellet? Or was there a .32 caliber pistol that shot ball projectiles?
Thanks!
