Too much snow and frozen ground to be tearing up people's yards, so we made another trip back to our Colonial site.
We've been finding all our flat buttons and big coppers in a very small area here. We figured it'd be a waste of time until we get some thawed ground, instead we managed to chop a few more buttons out of the ground today.
The boy started the day finding a couple flat buttons then a 1908 V nickle? He also found a piece of pewter spoon.
On an earlier trip I found a piece that fits perfectly to the piece he found today. The two pieces were about 15" away from where each piece was found. He found 4 buttons total for the day.
I found a old coroaded buckle, 3 more flat buttons and some mystery piece. My first impression with the mystery piece was a rosette??

I like it when they say " Don't know what you'd find...but go ahead. " I had one fellow tell me he and his brother had searched a fairly small yard for years. I got a draped bust half cent and a civil war token from that one. I am very stubborn and take it personally when they say I won't find anything, lol. Sounds like you have a very good area. Hope you have much luck.

treblehunter- I think around here it's more the farmers have been pestered for years with different ones either already hitting their property or just asking to metal detect it.
I'm sure they've all had their share of holes not filled in, fence damage, trash left behind and a list of other problems.
The civil war relic hunters in this area have been doing this forever and the bigger properties were prime targets. It wasn't just Gettysburg, there was civil war history in all the towns surrounding Gettysburg. Makes it real hard to find a place unless your good friends or family.

Old Dude- our Bed and Breakfast property we got permission from last Spring we've hit it over and over. The finds are slow now but, we're still pulling bullets off that place, it's only 8 acres.
The ground is frozen right now but, the kid got a Sharpes on a short hunt there today and a 3 ringer yesterday. I'm sure when the ground thaws and we figure out our new AT Pros, we'll find plenty more. My round ball last week came from there too. We got over 200 CW bullets from there already.

The property I got my Barber dime off 3 weeks ago supposedly was hit a number of times over the years. It's mostly fields around the house or other builders with the yard only being about a 1/4 acre if that big, super small.
The ground was half frozen the day we were there so couldn't dig all our hits. The kid also found a wheat and a IH?

Another property we hit earlier this year and the kid should have known better. The owner here was a friend and when we asked about detecting he didn't have a problem with it.He warned us that he'd lived there for over 30 years and that he couldn't count how many times it had been hit.
The ground was half frozen again on this hunt. We weren't finding much and after about 20 mins. the kid was moaning that it was probably cleaned out and that we should find somewhere else to go. Ten minutes later he found a King George Half Penny and a Large Cent and both were 15' from the front porch.
After he found each one I gave him a sarcastic, yeah we should have left, it's been hunted out. Lol

Now that's the way to remind him who's still boss, lol! When it is producing, 4 acres is actually a pretty big area. Low and slow...
