Howdy from SE ohio... I have been detecting off and on since 1997. I have had my XLT for a few years and have had great success.. at least I say so..... over this past weekend I found 4 Indian Heads and a 1902 Barber Dime all in the same church lot... I also found 2 other Indian Heads the day before in another church lot..... I have found 6 Barber Dimes in all...... in another spot I found about 15 wheats, 6 Indians and a 1920 50 cent piece.... my question is this: I just turn on the machine and set it in the coin mode.... then I turn off the ratchet pinpointing, set the sat to 7 then turn on the tone id.... I have been thinking lately though that I have to be missing some good finds.... so what do I need to adjust to give me more depth.... I am really looking for a few adjustments and not a whole program that I would be unfamiliar with..... any ideas or help ?

Thanks!
RAndy

If you are using coin program, then the XLT is using the highest level of discrimination. I don't believe that by turning off the ratchet pin pointing will increase your depth by doing so. I use mixed mode because it's kinda like having the best of both worlds, discrimination and all metal, and by using that feature you will get better depth but you will hear every hit.
Just pay close attention to the signagraph at the bottom of your LED screen. This is what works for me but may not for you because our locations are a long ways apart. At least try some different settings, bury coins in your back yard and see which adjustments give you the best results. If you just use the coin program every time, you could have paid less money and obtained the same results.

I never use anything except the Relic programme with the XLT. Increase Pre Amp a couple of notches then AC sensitivity until the machine is a little unstable in use. Then adjust AC back until the machine runs nice and smoothly.
I would suggest you accept down into the minus numbers. Try ACCEPT -10 through to +95.
Make certain the audio tone suits your hearing and headphones.
I don't bother to use the machies tones. There's to many and like the signagraph numbers will be inaccurate in different types of ground. Bar size and groupings are more important and reliable.
Recovery speed should be adjusted according to the amount of targets (both good and bad in the ground). Dropping the number will increase depth in fairly clean soil. High rubbish areas increase it. A smaller coil is a good idea. The stock 9.5 target masks like mad.

When you find a programme that works for you and your area drop it into one of the spare programme slots and the only adjustments you will be making after loading/ground balancing is to the sensitivity. After detecting an area for a bit you can then decide from the amount of targets whether to adjust recovery speed.
