Found a little silver cob tonight at one of my river spots. Hard to believe Ive missed this one over the years but I suspect shifting river silts over time. Looks like a Charles II(1661-1700) 1 real from Mexico that, like most 1 real cobs that I find, is heavily clipped to almost half real size. Ive now find 9 cobs from this area and 9 cobs directly across the river from here

So, what was there? A ford across the river? A ferry landing? There must be a reason for so many lost coins...

It was very likely the political and economic center for my area briefly in the late 17th to very early 18th century.
