More re the "Spain seizes Odyssey boat"

More about that Spanish (or not...) treasure. Seems as if half of Europe is in on this one. Geez. (more of the story at the link - I only quoted a little of it)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6903807.stm

A US treasure-hunting ship intercepted and searched by Spanish police investigating a mysterious haul of riches has been cleared to leave port.

The Ocean Alert is owned by a company in Miami which recently raised a record haul of silver coins from a shipwreck.

Spanish authorities suspect the discovery might have been made in their territorial waters.

But Gibraltar disputes the claim, saying the ship had been boarded in international waters.

The Ocean Alert was stopped and boarded by Spanish police after leaving the British colony last Thursday.

Re: More re the "Spain seizes Odyssey boat"

the spanish were not happy having to give up giabralter way back but they did--not surprizing that they claim britian owns the island but "spain" owns all the waters around it. the normal 3 to 12 miles given to a country---is disputed by spain in regards to the area. however it is worth noting that spain was hoping to "grab" the original crew that was on the boat for "questioning"---they will still be questioned I'm sure but in a lawyers office in the us were the questioners will not be able to "hold" them till they see "fit" to release them---they checked the boat and got what they could find---and thus having no "proof" of wrong doing have to release the vessel and its "transport" crew---thus spain failed in its ---take the "origional" crew in for questioning (and thus hold them as hostages) to gain leverage gambit---Ivan
