Baldingboy and I had been eagerly awaiting the chance to return to the yard we hunted last week where we both found silver, wheats, gold and his cool lead soldier. We had freezing temps one day then 70 degree temps the next with a monsoon and then Tornadic activity (as the weather guy likes to say). So last night we went back, the ground was mushy but not so bad you couldn't dig in it.

Right off the bat I hit my real TREASURE, first signal too!!! It says AAA on it and it is my first zipper pull in three months!!! What a beauty. Then as usual BB says to me "hey look what I found" and pulls out a 2 dollar token from the local arcade ::) :-\ :'(

Well I tried not to be too bad a sport but I did stomp and pout for a few minutes. I wondered off behind the house where BB wouldn't see me having a good cry. ;) We both got back to hunting and found some odd coins and junk, er I mean relics. ::) BB then says hey Larry (that's me ME22) come here and look at what I found. Walk over look down and he had found himself a Merc! His first! I was really happy for him and proud of him because this was the second hunt in a row that he has found silver. I found a few more coins, a wristwatch, pocket knife and some other crap but no silver :-\ :( We decided to move to the back yard and I found the ambulance and two pieces of the jeep BB had found last week. Good thing I found the Ambulance because I was sure BB was going to need it if I didn't find silver. ::) ;)

Made my way around the back yard and found the buckle and the nails and the scrap aluminum and then got a high tone almost silver but not quite and really weird because it was hard to get it to reproduce. So I started digging and out popped what I thought at first was play money, then silver. Turned out to be a 1942 French 50 Centimes coin made of aluminum. :( Darn French haven't they heard of silver? Anyway we messed around in the back yard a while longer detecting and didn't find much. The home owner kept coming out to see how we were doing and we offered him the use of the Deleon several times but it was too cold for him to hunt. Come on 35 degrees is not too cold!!!

We decided after showing all our stuff to the owner and his wife to head for the car. As we were walking out I got a good signal and dug a wheat penny. Just then as I was making my plans to hit BB on the head with his landshark digger, I got a sweet signal and out popped the 40 Merc! I was turning to show it to BB and he holds up a Silver Religious medal... :o Can you believe the nerve of this guy ??? Anyway I patted him on the back and congratulated him all the while just wanting to step on his toe! And then he turns around and pulls out a 1960 Rosie!!! I was about to blow a gasket then I remembered our last hunt and I had found some great stuff and heck tonight wasn't too bad either of course I didn't find the really cool lead soldier either last hunt. Anyway that is when it occurred to me, anybody else would've come to a place I found and dug the stuff BB had tonight and I would have NEVER thought about letting them come back and hunt the place. But I was actually happy that BB and I have both gotten a lot better with our machines and the good finds are coming to both of us.

In a way this is indicative of a problem I have had on the forum as well, trying to compete with all of you to find equal or better finds as each of you have but I realize now all of us here on this forum are a family of sorts. We should all be happy when one of our brothers or sisters finds the good stuff whether that be clad or silver or gold! Or in my case ZIPPER PULLS!!!!!!!!!!

So thanks for reading and I honestly hope that all of you have success in your hunts and find happiness in your heart the next time you dig a pulltab or nail because that's what this hobby is all about finding metal...

Wow...Are your knees sore? You did alot of digging. I like the merc and the ghost-busters "grocery getter"
You kept yourself busy for sure. 8) 8)

I sure did I dug 94 items up only 88 or 89 in the picture. One piece of steel/iron was so bad that it just fell apart as I tried to get it out of the ground same with a twist off top and I dug a piece of pipe at 12-14 inches that I couldn't get out of the ground!

How do you know if you are doing a good job with the stuff? I mean I could of dug 200 iron targets last night. I would have never pulled the old rust pocket knife if I hadn't been digging iron signals at the time... Oh well enough of my rambling.

Hey is this a fishing weight?

ME,

Fun, fun, fun as always. Y'all did pretty dang good, can't wait to hunt with y'all again. I can just see BB slapping a mosquito, then his arms, then using his detector to fight them off. :D You guys are a hoot...love y'all.

;) RR

Thanks RR. BB has made up some "bug spray" at least that's what he calls it. The EPA would declare him a superfund site if he used it and they found out about it.

It has tobasco sauce, deet, kerosene, ethanol, moonshine, shoe polish and a secret ingredient in it. Don't smoke around him when he uses it or sit in a car!!! ;) :D

"Hey is this a fishing weight?"

Actually, Larry, what you have found there is an old form of money, and except for the top being busted, it looks to be in excellent shape. Yessirreeeee, that's a beauty! That number "1" on it...that means that's a $1. You should be able to get a lot of money off of that thing. Yep! If you want, take it down to the bank and they will give you a $1 bill for it......or you can bring it with you to the LA Hunt and RR will give you what she thinks it's worth.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The other stuff.....hmmmm......well, it could be worth something...especially that zipper pull. Now that's a real nice one.

Hey, guys.....I hope you are practicing up for CTH2....ya never know who might decide to show up......LOL

Good job, Larry!!! And, Baldingboy, thanks for letting Larry win sometimes.......LOL ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Another fun adventure. You did not say that the zipper pull was erotic red.!!!

the 1942 50 centime (1/2 franc) french coin was a nazi controlled france "german" coin--- thus its "aluminum" a fairly worthless metal at the time ---- lots on nazi controlled "country" coins were zinc even more worthless metal (like our modern zinc cents) --- it was most likely brought back by a WW2 "french area" vet as a souviner and later lost. wish it could talk.

;D Sorry Borninok, That is a 1oz fishing weight. Or where you kidding to eagle about this Idig

ME&BB, I expect to see quite a large collection of those elusive valuable zipper pulls from you two at the Noodle's Louisiana Bayou hunt.

Great digs on the yard!

Good read, & Great finds, Congrats!!!
Sounds like you all have a lot of fun on your hunts...
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Congrats on the silver and the old ambulance is cool!!! Bootstrap

Great finds and story to go with, your whole body must have been sore not just the knees, lots of junk/relics. In all a great day of digging, we are frozen solid here no digging , just research.

THX for sharing

ME,
It's always a treat to read your and BB's posts. It's almost like we are there watching your antics. ;D You guys are great.
Congrats on your finds. I dug one of those Frenchie coins once too, and thought I had really found something rare. ;) Oh well.
And....

Very well said. I think the competition gets the best of some of us some times. It's a hobby that is meant to be fun, and we are ALL winners no matter what we find.

-MM-

(BB- You better wear a hard hat and a bullet proof vest on your next hunt. Also, stay at least 10 yards away from ME. Whatever you do, DON'T wave a zipper pull in front of his face. It could turn out to be a BIG mistake on your part.) ;) ;D

Larry, I'm glad you had a great time out there finding the metallic stuff and, of course, the camaraderie of your friend, BB. That's what it's all about. It's a great hobby, isn't it? You never know what you might recover next.
