Got in a quick hunt today, found two more silvers from the same field as the 1907 Barber Half - this time a 1907 Barber dime and a 1947 Rosie.

Strangely the Barber dime doesn't have a reeded edge, it must be a mint error. Even when I found it it was the first thing I noticed in the dirt - a smooth silver edge.

The little pin says "For Progress in Writing" the center symbol may be a school emblem stylized as a combined "PM" or "MP".

That dime should definitely have a reeded edge. I think the PM on your token is Palmer Method. My 6th grade teacher used the Palmer Method and taught us how to do it. I still use it occasionally.

I think if the barber dime was newer it could be a "dryer dime" and I guess it could still be one, a dime that got stuck in a dryer or some similar machine and worn the reeded edge away also I noticed the extreme wear on the face so much so that the denticles are worn away as well which also happens to "dryer dimes".

Yes, I think it's highly likely there is some sort of post-mint damage. It was clearly lost many decades after its mintage so there is no doubt it could have been in a dryer, given the presence of late 1940's artifacts in the same area it could have been the late 40's or even 1950's when it was lost.

Silver is always a great find! Congratulations!

Way Cool - Congratulations! I found a 1956 Quarter with all the reeding warn away.

Nice going on the silvers.
