Metal Detecting
Hit an area of the park this morning I never paid much attention too in the past. First target was the 1936 mercury dime. Next target was a 1916 Buffalo nickel. Followed that with a couple of Indian head cents(1884 and 1906) and then the spot went cold. Crossed the street to an area around a big old tree. First target was a deep one that kind of hit a little higher and to the right of nickel on the smart screen. Dug down about 8 inches and I popped a small circular object out of the ground. At first glance I thought it was a charm but when I brushed off some dirt and saw III on the reverse I almost crapped myself. After 27 years of swinging a coil, I had just dug my first nickel three cent piece, an 1865. I can finally cross that one off my wish list. I followed that one up with a deep semi-key 1871 Indian head cent that I nailed with my digger ! In the same general area I then dug the 1910 and 1911 V nickels. Finished off the morning with a no date Buffalo nickel. The four nickels bring my old nickel total for the year to 51 with one shield, 16 V's, 26 Buffaloes and 8 silver war nickels. Usually August is my worst detecting month of the year but this August is shaping up to be one of my best !!!

Ed. Great find. I'm in upstate as well. Hadn't had that kind of luck in some time. Nice!

Nice have seen very few of those posted, they read quite low conductive wise!! Great hunt there !!

congrats! those 3 cent nickels are super hard to find. I've managed two in 13 or so years.

Killer Hunt! III pc. is on my wish list.

Damn you're good!

-Lady Liberty is hot stuff...especially on a coin

Awesome digs... congrats on a great day!

Thats what i love about this hobby. You've been diggin holes for 27 years and when you woke up this morning and started digging the last thing you thought you'd find is a III center, probably wasn't even on your mind with all those cool coins you were finding and BAM....there it is.

Wow... I am usually a big silver fan... but nickel and copper look pretty awesome right now.

Congrats on a spectacular hunt! GL&HH.

Nice finds!! That semi key Indian is around $75 in g condition!!!

allot of nice finds. That is a slammin hunt! The 3 cent piece is a very attractive coin. The date is appealing to some civil war collectors too.

Man I'm jealous! I don't own a detector yet but just borrowed an Ace 105 from a cousin hoping to scratch the itch in the meantime. I'll be happy with clad! Great finds!

Very nice hunt, and to think it came from a park!

Wow that 3 center is one you rarely see dug. That in itself is a KILLER find. Congrats on some very nice coins

Dang, you got a fistful of old beauty there!

Nice digs and thanks for the pics
