I have this military mosquito headnet that goes over a helmet. Could this be WWI? I bought it at a military surplus back in the 70's but never thought much of it. The only way to get hunting gear at that time was military surplus stores.

I found one reference on Worthpoint that says its French but its not conclusive and they dont know if its WWI or WWII. Could it be French Vietnam? At 11 inches diameter, it seems to be better shaped for a WWI helmet. :dontknow: I wonder what the value? http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/french-military-army-mosquito-net-helmet-cover-ww

The markings are inside underneath. All I can read is:

ARMEE

J. MILLE & CIE
VILLEURBANNE

;D They are funny looking but the mosquitos this year have been very bad. This is the worst in 30 years. They are so bad that I brush them off; swatting individual bugs doesnt help.

I use a WWII camo Marine headnet but they can still bite through if it lays on the face.. It must be used with the helmet. http://www.monstermarketplace.com/military-surplus/wwii-usmc-camo-mosquito-head-netThis one actually works better because it keeps the bugs off the face.

I am wondering what battlfields this was necessary. French Indochina seems most likely but I believe its WWI or early WWII but I cant find proof. Someone that has time will find it for me.

France obtained control over northern Vietnam following its victory over China in the Sino-French war (1884–1885). French Indochina was formed in October 1887 from Annam, Tonkin, Cochinchina (which together form modern Vietnam) and the Kingdom of Cambodia; Laos was added after the Franco-Siamese War.
It wasn't until the Geneva Convention of 1954 that France relinquished all claims to territory in the Indochinese peninsula.
