I always wondered if Mountain didn't take that name because Leslie West was the size of one when this band was popular. Most people know Mountain from Mississippi Queen, and that is one of my least favorite of their songs. West is a great blues/rock guitarist and had some amazing riffs.
Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi had some great vocals and their 1st two albums were by far their best works. One of NY's top rock bands of their time
Note: Felix Pappalardi was at times referred to as the 4th member of Cream. He helped arrange and played on Creams Disraeli Gears album. Even when Felix played, he would emulate the style of Jack Bruce's bass licks.
