This prop coin appeared in the 1952 Durango Kid western film "The Kid From Broken Gun".

It appeared to be the size of a US 50 cent coin, and only the obverse side was
shown in the film.

It might be a game token or play money.

Can anyone identify this item?

William Boyd "Hopalong Cassidy" only used American silver dollars in his films.

He would hand out aluminum "Good Luck Coins" during his personal appearances.

Seriously, who is to say what coins were used in a 2-bit western 60+ years ago? At least we know there was a coin in the movie...

Sorry I can't help more.

In the movie, the loot was described as " a strongbox loaded with rare gold coins".
I don't believe the description went into any specific gold coin--nor did it matter.

There's a book out about "Movie Money"

Authentic Hollywood Movie Money

I imagine the Prop Departments insisted on something fake so they wouldn't lose sleep trying to keep millions of dollars accounted for with the hundreds of folks milling around on a film set. Laws against printing US currency but none against filming it.
.
Nominated for best coin imagery in a movie. "You son of a "Wah-Ah-Wah-Ah-Wahhhh!"
