maybe a chamber pot like this one images (4).webp

I think it would make a pretty uncomfortable drinking vessel with that reeded rim. As for 'chamber-pot', judging from the size, I would need two of those.

I would say it's an urn-type censer (incense burner) and might once have had a lid.

No marks. Just a number. " 1. "
Apears like pewter. The handles and part of the vase has one band of metal. Like tha handles. Of different alloy i would say as shines more like higher purity silver. There is an acid test mark inside obviously somebody thought plain old pewter and left it behind. I bought it at Savers ( value village thrift store yesterday 3$). The handles are same size as bowl. Decorated with swirls and leaves or feathers. The legs. Are intricate with raised heels. The artwork on the legs apears to me as three mushrooms.
Mead did include mushrooms once upon a time. Its about 5 or 6 inches around i can get measurements later.

What was said about the ribbed edge makes sence but. Simulating the motion it seemed fine. To be scientific i even filled it with water and tried drinking. No interference at all. Shaped so the your bottom lip can grip under the ribbed edge . and has room for a wide lipped person. The bowl part even rest ontop of the chin real nice. Wish i had some ancient mead to drink. Doent look like it has the fitting to support a lid either.

Added a photo of the only marking the number "1"
Also all 4 legs and 2 handles were soldered on seperate.

Interesting find, but very cool!:occasion14:

How did the water taste?

Not great

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

From the appearance - pewter would be my guess , if not - silver plate - If sterling or another high silver alloy , coin - others, we would likely see hallmarks to that effect ...

I’m still inclined to think it’s a censer, and loosely copied from typical early Chinese styles. Some have feet and some don’t; some sit on a stand; some have a lid/cover; some are plain and some are decorated; handles of all styles and types exist. They come in all sizes too, but around 6 inches across is fairly typical.

I’m not seeing “mushroom feet’ and I think a connection to ‘mushroom mead’ is pretty tenuous.

Well censer is a good bet. But i still get the feeling other wise. I will take a better picture of the feet. The pattern style on the feet is probably the only thing that could help narrow down. Style and age.. Also what is the significance of the number #1 on bottom?
id also say its pewter or low alloy silver. Defenitly gots lead inside. It is very heavy for size. Weights 497 grams.
And if not mushrooms un the patter then what?
I see 3 open mushrooms growing in a flush of baby mushrooms.

Lots of scots and irish in pei. A quaich cup or maze cup . feasting cup. Loving cup. The large prominent handles really make me think it was for drinking.

All different angles of 1 of the legs
I see mushrooms
