Ran into a guy who spends some time up here, more in Mexico but detects at both places. He was at the parkway digs this morning. Last time I saw him he was at the parkway digs across town a few years ago. He did good there, finding a small tin with a cache in it among many other goodies.

Still getting the hang of the new rig, I was clearing clad this morning and did get a nice old bennington brown, one wheatie and of course my 12 or 13th old cable TV coax adaptor...

Meanwhile, this guy with a very low-end Bounty Hunter unearthed an 1859 IH, xf among his four IH's this morning. He also got a very nice 1900 Barber dime and a 20-something Merc. He also got some clad, and a silver half with no discernable detail front or back, worn thin but still reeded around the edge.

Haven't put much of the odds and ends from the site up here but feeling a bit kicked to the curb by a good md'er with a real cheap machine, I'll claim braggin' rights on this stuff from today. I think that partial round item with the hole in the middle is a Georgia civil war button, it has 12 GA on it...

LOL!

I've got a Bounty Hunter Land Star laying around here collecting dust if you want to go another round with the guy! ;D

Tim, I came so close to taking the 90E exit ( to the curb digs) on my way back from Woodstock today. But I figured you guys had things pretty well cleaned out by now. Wish now I would have stopped. :'(
Them dang cheapy BH's do go deep. Had no problem with mine hitting a 8" deep test quarter in my yard. But with no pinpoint or target ID, you almost have to dig everything to get anything.

Cool digs!

I pulled 4 of the coaxial cable things out when I was there to....
That's a marble right?

I suppose anything is possible but... did you actually see him dig those items
or did he just show you them and say he dug them there?
If he really did get them from that area, he should play the lottery.
It's over 105 million as of today and I think the odds of winning it are better than the odds of him finding all that stuff.

Do I sound just a bit jealous, or bitter, or ANGRY that it wasn't me?
It's ok. I'll be alright. Breathe in... breathe out...
I guess luck falls on those in the right place at the right time.

Great find on that partial "button" Tim.
Actually I think the GA stands for General Armstrong. The 12 of course a reference to the War of 1812. They would dock in the place where the Victoria Casino now sits. When on shore leave they were known to frequent some of the Elgin ladies and they were usually so anxious to get down to business they would carelessly pull their coats off and the buttons would fly.
You can read about it here http://libraryautomation.com/warof1812/index.html
but because of the "indiscretions" of the ships crew while on leave, all accounts of their Elgin exploits have been expunged from the records.

Hey John, come along. Trust me, I hit and run just grabbing those targets that are easily apparent. Unfortunately that's mostly mems. I'm over 30 wheaties now at this site, 11 IH's, three buffs, 6 silver dimes and actually have covered only 60%.

Mayo is more meticulous and when he's there, he pulls a better ratio of coins to square foot and finds plenty in my wake. So between us we have not covered much of it. Especially since the tilling and raking is still being done there. Got two whole blocks tilled and raked flat yeaterday and hoping to hit it today. All comers welcome. Your best bet is to be faster than Mayo and more careful than me and that's a big spread based mostly on my haphazzard hit it and get it run style, so most could do well there.

Hey Mayo, that guy is that good, he has a homemade hatchet/adz and looks like Taz going cyclonic when he gets a target. I remember him from a couple years ago and he got a nice tin full of coinage out of the Douglas Ave/Brook Street parkway digs. That was where I got that excellent condition bayonet, model of 1855. I got more silver from that dig, but I got more of everything including bling there also. BTW, his last trip back home to Mexico he scored a major silver cache.

Yeah Bob, that's a clay marble, often incorrectly identified as a "Bennington" but in this case not fully glazed as those are. This type was most likely a bottle stop. I'll bring some by on Sat for your perusal.
