Can anyone tell me if protective covers for the coil takes any effectiveness away?

Nope, not at all. Be sure to take it off and clean out the dirt once in a while.

Taking the coil cover off to clean out the dirt, can sometimes be a pain but it needs to be done. Some folks run a bead of sealant around the edge to keep the dirt out.
