I bought a 5.3 today to play with for my MXT. When you hunt a new site do you start out with the stock 9.5 then switch to a smaller coils if to much trash? I hear the 5.3 loses 20 to 30 % depth and nobody wants to lose a deep target.

I have been using my 9.5 at the parks and the beach and where there's alot of ground to cover. I use the 5"dd excelerator in places that I have found that are heavy with trash. I usually use the 5 around old homesites and for relics usually off the beaten path ie: in the woods. I also use both for the prospecting mode because lately I've been caught up in the gold fever thingy. I have started to find flakes in my pans and am trying to narrow down a location. I like the 5 because it sure can weed out the trash when using c&j and R modes. I just plain like it I guess. Hope that helps. It's another weapon in the arsenal and it's a good one.
