So here's a little trick I thought I'd pass along to you disc mode hunters when hunting trashy ground that I failed to mention before in any detail. Most of today's newer machines have this similar capability.
On my Equinox I use the 6” coil, gold mode, notched to a preferred search profile, with the slowest recovery speed and sensitivity around 18-20 depending on the conditions. However, don't let that slow recovery speed worry you and here's why.....
Those iffy targets, the ones that bounce around and never seem to settle, maybe even briefly going negative on you at times, here's what you do. Switch to all metal mode and notice what happens. Even though the gold mode is set at the slowest recovery speed when you switch to all metal it is noticeably faster without any loss of depth which allows for much easier and far more recognizable target separation as well.
Just remain aware that the deeper the target is the less accurate VDI becomes, especially when targets are resting at angles in the ground, which is what can often contribute to those uncertain VDI returns. A lot of times by going to all metal you can even get those VDI numbers to settle in.
I'm constantly doing this during my hunting, especially in those trashier areas, and it really makes a huge difference a great deal of the time. Just passing it along........
