Seeing as how you're in Wisconsin, how 'bout a Tesoro Tejon? If I remember right, from what I've read, you don't have that bad a ground to hunt in. I have an MXT and its a good machine, but myself I'm really considering adding a Tejon to my stable. I know a relic hunter that has only used Tejons since it became available and has worn one out to the point that the factory replaced it for free. He also has the largest collection of relics I've seen around here. I have a Cibola and really like how well they pinpoint, the crisp sound of signals when they're good and the scratchy difference when its junk. They are really light and easy to operate too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've given a fair amount of thought to the Tejon and the Vaquero. Since I have an Advantage, I'm leaning more to an ID machine to "play" with, even though they aren't foolproof and their information often has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Then I would stongly recommend the MXT. One of my hunting buddies uses an Xterra-70 and clusters of iron nails, like you find on a lot of relic sites, gives it fits. I'm usually able to work around the iron to find the good signals.

May I butt in and suggest the Deleon. It is a TID machine and it is awesome. IT will only get you targets in the 7 to 9 inch range with the stock coil but it is one heck of a machine. You can't go wrong with an MXT. I hunted this weekend with a lady that had one and she found some GREAT stuff.

me22,

I've read comments regarding the DeLeon that imply it's preferable in some ways to the Cortes. Would you agree?

OR

I've had both (and made thousands of $'s with the MXT prospecting) and am going back to the XTerra 70. It's considerably lighter and, from what I saw, somewhat deeper with a vastly better disc. mode. With the X 70, I don't have to constantly check the screen and use the tones instead. They both seem to handle bad ground pretty well and have a decent AM mode. The X 70 seemed to be able to ID Canadian (ferrous) coins better.. though only with the concentric coil. ..Willy.

I like the Deleon and I got to use a Cortes for a while this past weekend. I like the Deleon better and I have dropped all plans on buying a Cortes. Don't know if that helps or not.

These are four that I'm thinking about as a step up from my Ace 250 for coins and relics. Or, if someone has another alternative, I'm open to suggestion.

Thanks and HH,

I have used both the MXT and X-70 and in my ground the 70 is the clear winner for a variety of detecting types from coins/jewelry to relics. The stock coil, 6x10 coil and new 6" DD coil are all one needs unless you have some specific purpose in mind.
