My 9 yr old son's collection

Here are some fossils and agates that my 9 yr old son has collected over the years. There are a couple of whatsits. That big claw-looking thing is about a foot long. What is it? We found it in a plowed field. Also, I think there is a pic of a whale bone that was found in a sand pit near home. He loves hunting for rocks.

Re: My 9 yr old son's collection

Good start on a life-long hobby perhaps.

The big, clunky dark objects are rocks. The claw-like rock may be a concretion.

Keep lookin' down!

Re: My 9 yr old son's collection

I agree about the concretion. the large clunky piece is definitely bone. It has the porous areas like a bone does and the shape is that of a hip, though the pic does not do justice. The piece is about as big as a man's fist.
