I consider this year a pretty good year for me for finding keepers. Halfway through this year, I forced myself to learn a new program on my AT Pro and I definitely think it made a difference in the quality of finds. Although I was a bit disappointed with my silver result this year, but I wasn't hunting as many parks or 'modern' sites, as I mostly concentrated on the old homesteads and farm fields. Not too bad a result considering this is only my third year detecting.

Enough talk, and you all know how I love to do that :laughing7: here are some of my 'better finds'.

Dave

That bell was a monster!

That bell was a monster!

It sure is Cru, if only it was complete! :-[
I found most of the main body of the bell early this spring, I then returned to the site over the course of 2 months and found four more pieces of it. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the final piece to the crotal bell puzzle. :icon_scratch:
Hope you and your Dad have as good a year in 2014 as you did this year my friend! :occasion14:
Dave

Looks like u got the frozen North franchise! That 1825 half penny looks as fresh as the day minted. bet it could get $50 on ebay. I don't know much about canadian coins in general, except the loonie, toonie, and 20th century pennies. Outstanding model you got to hold the ring.

Thanks very much for taking the time to post regarding my finds from this year scaupus! :hello:

The 1825 1/2 Penny Token was a coin I found this September on an 1830 homestead site in Eastern Ontario. I also found a beautifully decorated late 18th century 'Dandy Button' at the same site.

Here is a link to my post on those finds if you're interested in reading about it . . .

The lady holding the gold rings name is Leslie and I had just found her husbands wedding band for her on their property.

Here is a link to my post on that find if you're interested in reading about it as well.

Thanks again for your post and best of luck to you in Florida!

I feel it's a 'regional thing' here in the east. A lot of these 'animal' bells are found in the UK and the majority of our settlers here in Canada came from the UK. Crotal or animal bells, also known as rumblers, were used on horse-drawn vehicles before motorized vehicles were common. They were often made of brass or bronze with a slot cut down the side and a round iron ball placed inside, which made the bell ring when it moved. These bells were used to warn other horse-drawn vehicle users (mostly on country roads) that another vehicle was approaching. They came in many sizes, from a small 1-inch version to bells that were many inches across. The older ones were forged while others were cast. They hung from a leather harness on the horse's collar. On larger vehicles, such as delivery wagons, they were driven into the wooden frame of the wagon.

Thanks for your post and for your comments looknforgold!

Thanks very much for your post Rick, sorry about the late reply bud.
We most definitely should hit a couple of sites together this year, though I doubt if any will be a productive as your 'picnic grove' site! :laughing7: I've got at least 12 sites targeted for 2014 so far, I've spotted these in my travels around Ontario this winter. I also want to revisit at least half a dozen 'perimeter' farm fields I detected last year which I feel still have treasures to give!

Talk to you again when the grounds thawed,
Dave
